ShedBuddy helps you inventory tools and materials from photos of sheds, garages, and storage areas. This page summarizes how we handle that data.
What we collect
- Account details you provide at sign-in (email via Supabase Auth).
- Photos you upload for scans, plus derived inventory and review actions.
- Projects you start and your conversations with Buddy: what you are working on, the messages you send, and Buddy’s replies.
- Technical logs needed to run the service (request metadata and error reports; app and server crash reports are sent to Sentry).
- Usage events: which features you use and when — for example that a scan finished, a project was marked done, or a reminder was opened — linked to your account. They record counts and categories only, never your photos, item names, project descriptions, or anything you type. They are kept in our own database and are not sent to an advertising or analytics company.
- Reminders, if you turn them on, are scheduled on your phone by the app itself. Their content is not sent to us or to a push-notification service.
Where your data is stored
Your account, inventory, projects, and photos are stored with Supabase (our database, sign-in, and file storage provider). The ShedBuddy service runs on Google Cloud. These providers process data on our behalf to run the app.
AI processing of your photos
When you scan an area, the photo is sent to Google’s Gemini AI to detect and describe the tools and materials in it. Google processes the image to return that detection, under its API terms. Detections are provisional — they only become part of your inventory once you review and confirm them in the app.
AI processing of your Buddy conversations
When you start a project, the description you type is sent through OpenRouter to an AI model from Google that gives the project a short title. When you message Buddy, your message is sent through OpenRouter to AI models from OpenAI and Google, which write Buddy’s answer and assess it for safety, and directly to OpenAI for an automated safety check. To answer well, Buddy also sends the project’s title and description, recent messages in that conversation, its requirement checklist, the tools in your inventory, and any saved home details that are relevant. The app does not send photos in Buddy chat. Each provider handles the data under its own terms.
Your choice
The app asks for your permission before any photo, project description, or Buddy message is sent to an AI provider. You can turn this off at any time in Settings → AI & privacy; while it is off, scanning and Buddy do not work, and nothing is sent.
How we use it
Photos and scan outputs power inventory, project readiness, and retrieval answers for your account. We do not sell your personal data. Model detections are not treated as user truth until you reconcile them into inventory.
Retention and deletion
Original scan images may be deleted after a retention window (default 30 days) while inventory evidence and your corrections can persist so readiness and location answers remain useful. You can export your data at any time from Settings in the app. You can delete your account yourself in the app (Settings → Delete Account), which permanently removes your areas, scans, photos, inventory, projects, Buddy conversations, and usage events. You can also contact us below.
Your rights
You can see and export your data (Settings → Export All Data), correct it in the app, and delete it along with your account (Settings → Delete Account). For any other request about your data — including requests under GDPR or California privacy law — contact us below and we will respond within 30 days.
Children
ShedBuddy is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and the date above. For a material change, the app will ask for your permission again before sending anything new to an AI provider.
